Chloe & Kate

Today is the kind of day that makes you wish that just for a little bit…it was really summer again.  I don’t know about your summers, but summers here are HOT from the time the sun goes up until the sun goes down (and then some).  Today, specifically when I thought of summer, I thought of this session – with Chloe & Kate, two sisters that I’ve known since they were born.  There was a time, back when Chloe & my son Donovan were wee tots, that they were best of friends in daycare. Every story about Donovan’s day involved Chloe.  But, as kids get older & schools zone districts, they don’t see each other nearly as much as they used to – but luckily, us parents are friends – and I love that he has friends that he’s known “since forever” in his words.

So, when it was time for the girls to have new photos, Stacy gave me a call. The last time I did photos with them, Kate had just learned to stand & was able to wear her Christening gown.  This time, there was running, and giggling & twirls in dresses and laughs between sisters.  Even though it’s not nearly winter in N.C., and it’s barely even fall (it has been in the 70s all this week), this session reminds me of long summer days where the sun stretches as long and as far as it can and children take advantage of every last ray.

The Johnsons – Family Session

What do you get when you bring 3 teens and mom to a photo session? Lots of laughter and great photos, for one! I have known Jeris for a few years, since the kids were all small enough to play little league football! According to Jeris, the last time they had a family portrait, the oldest was 4 weeks old….I’ll let you do the calculations on who was there and who wasn’t for that photo! At the last minute, Darryl (dad) couldn’t make it, but we decided to go on anyway and I think the results were great.

The relationship that Jeris has with these three is awesome to watch, I can only hope that when my son is a teen, he still laughs with me, tells me funny things & will still spend an afternoon taking photos with me like these three did.  So check out mom and her three “babies” – I haven’t laughed this hard at a photo shoot in a really long time! This is a huge share because I liked SO many of these.

Jeris, Danielle, DeVaughn & Dorian, thanks!

Justin – Anytime Teen Session

August 29th, 2011

This session is truly a rare sight on my blog. Honestly, I don’t photograph a lot of teenage boys! So in addition to this being new to me, it was new for Justin as well. Boys are a lot different than girls, they are pretty much anything goes, so when we met in Charlotte N.C., […]

This session is truly a rare sight on my blog. Honestly, I don’t photograph a lot of teenage boys! So in addition to this being new to me, it was new for Justin as well. Boys are a lot different than girls, they are pretty much anything goes, so when we met in Charlotte N.C., the game plan was to head to the city and have some fun.

Justin was completely open to anything, and I love those types of sessions. Since I’m not from Charlotte and only vaguely know my way around, we rode around and stopped when we saw a cool spot. As with sessions in Raleigh in August, it was around 100 degrees, it had rained heavily the night before and it was muggy (two of my least favorite photo conditions are hot and muggy!). By the time we finished I think we were both suffering mild heat exhaustion!

Justin, thanks for being such a good sport in the heat, and thanks for showing me your best “Top Model”, when clearly you probably only watch for the cute girls :).

Aubrey’s turning Three! – Anytime Session

August 24th, 2011

It’s no secret – Aubrey is one of my favorite clients! I took some of our first photos together in December of 2008 when she was only a few months old, and she was soooo expressive!  Since then, we’ve done quite a few photos together, so she’s pretty used to me and the camera.  Long before she could talk, she was able to express with those beautiful eyes (usually it’s “really lady? one MORE photo?”), but this time, she was finally talking to me — as only a three year old can.  My favorite line was “…But I AM looking at the camera!!” This girl has energy, energy, ENERGY!!! (yes…with exclamation points) and I think at the end of this session, we were all done for the day.

In this last photo set, she wanted to hold up two finger so bad out of habit.  The last photo she was too done with us!

Aubrey’s mom, Shirley wanted some photos for her birthday party invites, and photos with a very cute hat she had.  The thing was, the hat wouldn’t fit the curls!  The humidity was probably 80% on the day of photos, and anyone with curly hair can tell you who wins every time in the flat iron v/s humidity battle . So we got the hat on, and some cute photos..right about that time, the hair gave up, we did a side pony, and that gave up too, finally it was time for a wardrobe change & a hair restyle.

As luck would have it, Aubrey was born a few days after her dad, Joseph, so Shirley wanted photos of the two of them together.  As we were thinking of what to write on the chalk board, he said “I know what it SHOULD say….nobody even cares about my birthday anymore!” — so pretty much that’s what we went for!

And as anyone with a three year old can tell you, they get very independent.  The only people they seem to want to listen to aren’t adults, and luckily, that’s where having a very persuasive older cousin comes in.  Aubrey absolutely adores Riley, so she was there to lend some extra support and guidance. Besides all that, isn’t she gorgeous! She has the best eyes!

Kennedi – Anytime Session

August 2nd, 2011

I did this session early this spring & I’m finally getting around to putting it on the blog.  Kennedi’s parents & I started discussing this session a little before her first birthday, in anticipation that she’d be walking…and she called our bluff!  She decided walking wasn’t her thing, so we waited…and waited.  This spring, not […]

I did this session early this spring & I’m finally getting around to putting it on the blog.  Kennedi’s parents & I started discussing this session a little before her first birthday, in anticipation that she’d be walking…and she called our bluff!  She decided walking wasn’t her thing, so we waited…and waited.  This spring, not only was she walking, but she was running!  Ahhh the beauty of new-found freedom on a toddler!  Miss Kennedi came ready for her session, with soulful little brown eyes & the best baby laugh ever!  I love a girl who laughs like she means it every time!

She arrived at the session ready to go with her little pink bow in the perfect position.  I love this age, it’s really more of a documentary on “what toddlers like”. You can’t really direct them, they will only sit still for 30 seconds max, so it’s a lot of following them & just capturing what happens.  It’s a lot easier than the alternative…trying to get a toddler in a garden of flowers to sit still and NOT explore!

So, thanks Brandi & Kemah for letting me photograph your little darling.

I have known these two girls for years it seems, I’ve watched them grow through the years from cute little girls to beautiful young women and I was so happy to get together with them for an anytime shoot.  I absolutely love working with girls this age, of course they go from “Gee…I don’t know how to pose” to “America’s Next Top Model” in about ten minutes flat!  These two were working the camera!

I didn’t want to overshare on this session, but I had so many favorites! Sooo…I overshared :).

Meet Bailey (the big sister):

And meet Taylor (the little sister):

I didn’t leave out Kim either, because after some prodding, she joined in the fun with her two lovelies.

Bailey & Taylor, you’re funny, bright & beautiful! I enjoyed spending the morning with you two in the gardens.
